Since it is a small Japanese language school, the atmosphere is very cozy and relaxed. Due to the small-group instructions,
the teachers can accurately grasp the students’ level and help them to enhance their Japanese language ability efficiently.
When necessary, we use English as support for the beginners and the intermediate students so that they will have less stress.
There are direct method and indirect method to teach a language. Direct method is instructional method using only Japanese, whereas the indirect method is instructional method using vehicular languages. In large scale Japanese language schools, they use direct method since there are students of various nationalities. We take the advantage of a small school and use English efficiently as a vehicular language to teach Japanese, especially for the beginners.

We have a very careful interview with each student. We ask about your educational background, your proficiency targets and the times you are available. We then assess your grammar, knowledge of Kanji and conversational proficiency in order to devise the most suitable plan for you.
We teach about customs, how to communicate smoothly with Japanese business partners, and essential expression patterns in order to establish a firm trust in business relationships. We strongly recommend this course to those who:
Masumu Goto
Masumu Goto is from Yokohama. After graduating from Hosei University in Japan (having obtained a Level 1 Middle School Social Studies teaching permit), he worked in Tokyo for around three years and moved to New Zealand. He volunteered at Sacred Heart High School in Napier City as a teacher of Japanese language and culture for one year. After returning to Japan, he taught English at a cram school. The following year, he enrolled at Massey University in New Zealand, and gained a postgraduate diploma of secondary school teaching (specialising in Japanese). After graduation, he worked as a full-time Japanese teacher at Edgewater College, a high school in Auckland. During his thirteen years of teaching there, he taught over 1500 students in total. In addition to managing classroom activities as a homeroom teacher, he was the coach of the gymnastics club. Throughout this time he also studied extramurally through the Massey University Graduate School, obtaining a “Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Administration”. He returned to Japan in 2010 after having lived in New Zealand for 16 years. He then worked at an international school in Tokyo for three years before founding KIWI Education Centre and opening the KIWI Japanese Class as a part of his education business.
Welcome to the port of Yokohama. Our school is in front of JR line Kannai staion. Our school’s motto is “Care for the individual needs of the students”. A lesson that I learned during my 20 years as a teacher is that “teaching is learning”. By teaching Japanese, I still have students that I keep in touch with, and this is the greatest delight for me. This joy sustains me in my teaching, which is my true calling. While living in New Zealand, I myself had to overcome cultural differences and adjust to the local lifestyle. Having had this experience as a foreigner, I am able to stand in your shoes, and understand differences in the way that people of different cultures think. Through that experience, I hope to support you and make your stay in Japan as comfortable as possible.
Goto Sensei is an absolutely brilliant Japanese teacher and invaluable in providing essential cultural insightfulness when acclimating to a new life in Japan. His custom lesson plans, passion for teaching, welcoming manner and great patience created an environment which encouraged me to challenge myself and stretch my Japanese speaking, reading and writing capability. ありがとうございます後藤先生!
As a recent newcomer to Japan, I was apprehensive about studying Japanese knowing how difficult it is, but my classes at Kiwi Japanese Language School have been interesting and a lot of fun, and I’m excited to keep learning more!
Goto-san is friendly and encouraging, the lessons are always well prepared and organized, so I was always learning and making progress. He was able to answer all my questions whether it was vocabulary, grammar, local customs and more. Over the last several months I went from zero Japanese to being able to use Japanese at stores, restaurants and other everyday situations. I highly recommend Kiwi Japanese language school!
I studied at Kiwi Japanese Language School between September 2015 to February 2017.
Goto Sensei has been very helpful in helping me improve in my Japanese language. He is patient in explaining even the simplest grammar syntax. Whenever I ask him about getting certain resources for my Japanese learning, he will always inevitably have the material ready by the next lesson.
Learning Japanese is not just about acquiring language proficiency, but also about getting to know the Japanese culture on a more intimate level. Having lived in New Zealand, Goto Sensei has the experience and open-mindedness to teach Japan’s unique culture to foreign students.
I highly recommend Kiwi Japanese Language School to anyone interested in improving their Japanese proficiency.

If you want to learn Japanese, you should definitely learn from Mr. Goto. He is polite, friendly, patient, and you won’t find a better teacher than him. I spent one year in Japan and what Mr. Goto taught me gave me the skills to become a fluent speaker. He can help you speak without an accent, teach you the most important words and grammar your need to have a conversation, and he teaches hiragana, katakana, and kanji in a way you can remember each character. Being able to speak Japanese (and read a little) definitely makes your time in Japan a time you will never forget, and Mr. Goto is the best person to do that.
